The following is a list of 9to5MacThe upcoming release of iPadOS 17.5, reveals the specifics. The software, which is currently in public and developer betas, will be released to the general public next month.
The software seems to have “new display firmware” for four iPad models. These are only referenced in code, as iPad16.3, iPad16.4, iPad 16.5, and iPad 16.6. They seem to correspond with expectations, namely an iPad Pro 11-inch with two different versions: one wifi, and another cellular. Also, two larger models, 12.9 inches with two separate versions: one wifi, the other cellular.
It seems that the firmware “suggests” that iPads with OLED screens will come in both 11-inch models and 12.2-inch versions.
The rumor that LG was to make displays for larger iPad Pros, and LG and Samsung would share panels for smaller models is confirmed.
What about the Apple iPad Air that is rumored, and which will be available in both screen sizes at the same moment? Is the lack of new Airs a sign that there won’t be any?
This is not the conclusion that you should draw because the references are to OLED displays, while the Air models will, if they come out at the same moment, be expected to retain the Liquid Retina technology used on current models. LCDs, not OLEDs, would then likely remain the standard.
