BALTIMORE — When it comes to vintage style, art and innovation–Baltimore is home to it all.
Vintage Black Expo was held on Saturday in downtown Baltimore. The Vintage Black Expo was held in the Assembly Hall of downtown Baltimore.
This is a time to celebrate, preserve and elevate vintage Black culture and history.
Baltimore’s vintage artists can show off their skills in a variety of ways, from hats and healing clothing to wearable art that is twisted.
Zakiya, founder and owner Vintage Black Expo said: “Let us make Black vintage the new future.” The Tightfisted Style.
Dwayne hazelwood is known for his swagger.
It became my signature look. Everywhere I went I always wore a hat. Then I started making them myself,” explained Dwayne hazelwood, the owner of Hazelwood Hats.
When someone wears one of my hats I want them feel special. “I want people to know that they are the only ones with these hats wherever they may go.”
No two pieces are the same.
Hazelwood said, “They won’t run into anyone wearing the same outfit.”
The Vintage Black Expo brings together dozens of entrepreneurs.
These people I hear about and see on the internet. Hazelwood said, “Now I can be there with them to support their businesses.
Designers and artists will be able to display their unique, stylish pieces which embody Black fashion history.
Sam Smith is a wardrobe and wellness expert. He said, “I knew fashion was something I’d be interested in.”
Hazelwood, a WJZ reporter said: “We get to experience black excellence in real life.”
Expo gives them resources and a place to showcase their work.
The expo is a place for people to come and see each other’s work, share ideas, network, and buy products from one another. Dreadz N’ Headz Natural Hair Care Center.
Many businesses are born in the basement, kitchen or other places of our home.
Shivers said, “I’d like people to be excited by the chance of saying that old things can meet new — reimagined.”
You don’t need to follow the crowd. Hazelwood said, “If you want to do something that is unique to you or speaks to your soul, go ahead.”
