Transit payment introduced Verification settingsGoogle Wallet adds a new option to “Automatically Add Linked Passes.”
Update 4/14Now you can download the support document:
Google Wallet allows you to link related passes together for easier access and organization. Users can’t yet link their own passes.
You can link your related passes to your event tickets, boarding passes or loyalty cards. They may also be associated with gift cards, special offers, library cards or auto insurance cards.
Google states that this feature “is currently in beta” and “may not be available for every pass.” The pass issuer is responsible to link the passes.
The digital keys of cars, corporate badges (hotel keys, campus IDs), private cards (driver’s licenses, insurance cards and COVID), or physical passes (such as hotel keys, driver’s licences) cannot be linked.
Original 4/6As part of a newly created “Passes”, sub-section, which also includes Notifications Emails and Animation, the “Automatically Add Linked Passes” option is activated by default. “Allow providers to add event tickets, promotional offers and more, to your existing pass.”
The “Find out moreThe “” link will take you to an article on Google Support that hasn’t been published yet. There is some developer documentation on Google’s website about Automatically linked passesYou can also pre-link passes to a primary pass when a user saves the main (primary) pass. When a user has saved the main pass, you can pre-link additional passes.
Google states that the “Auto Linked Pass” is grouped together with the primary ticket with a message above it informing users of the new link. This feature is available for the following types of passes: Event, Boarding Transit, Offers, Gift cards, Loyalty and Generic. Examples of use cases are:
- Link the offer with an existing loyalty program.
- You can attach a voucher for a meal to an event or boarding pass.
- Connect a parking permit to an event ticket.
This feature is not intended to be used for spamming the list of passes with unwelcome offers and promotions. It is nice to have the option of disabling auto-behavior.
This new feature is available in Google Wallet version 24.10.x, but it seems to have been more widely rolled-out than the Verification settings.
