Solomon Davis, a resident of Rochester, New York says it’s nice to be able to love your job.
Davis said, “Ask anyone here; I enjoy coming to work.”
He’s a resident ambassador for Connected Communities.
In Rochester, he works in Beachwood (East Main Street), EMMA (East Main Avenue Mustard Avenue), and Atlantic Avenue.
Two once-thriving communities in the center of the city now house more than 8,00 residents.
Davis said that when people arrive, there are problems such as rent problems, food problems, and a lack of attention.
A large donation has made it easier to help those in need and create better communities.
Mackenzie Scott’s Open Yield Call awarded Connected Communities $2 million.
The executive director of the non-profit, Dr. LaShunda Smith said, “If non-profit leaders worry about anything, outside of executing our mission, they are also worried about keeping the lights lit.”
Greenwood will receive $2 million as well. The project aims to attract minority businesses into vacant storefronts within the area.
Leslie Smith, Dr. Leslie Smith said: “Giving these entrepreneurs the tools they need will help them close this racial gap in wealth by helping to ideate and innovate.
Solomon Davis’ work with Connected Communities gave him a purpose and he shares that newfound sense of meaning in his life with everyone who approaches him.
Davis said, “The people that we assist become part of connected community. They become part of it.”
