Catholic Social Services of Southern Nebraska asks the public to help meet an urgent demand for furniture donations to aid those who are in need. Katie Patrick, CSS’s Executive Director says that furniture requests are nearly twice as high as usual. The requests are from over two dozen Lincoln human services agencies that want to assist their clients. We also have our own need for furniture.
Patrick told KLIN News that they were one of only a few agencies that offered free furniture to those who are trying to recover. Patrick says that they partner with over 30 non-profits working with individuals and families. The furniture we provide to our clients comes from these agencies.
She said they help people coming out of prison as well as mothers fleeing domestic violence, families going through rehab and those who have been in drug treatment. Patrick said that they are in particular need of bedroom furniture including beds and nightstands, as well as living room and kitchen furniture.
She said they help people coming out of jail, women who fled domestic abuse and those who go through drug rehabilitation. Patrick said that they’ve seen an increased demand from customers of all backgrounds for their furniture. This year, they have welcomed more than 160 new refugees. She anticipates a higher number.
