The Computer and Information Sciences College of King Saud University hosted a recent workshop in an effort to promote innovation and connect academic research and practical solutions. The event, titled “Empowering AI in the Nonprofit Sector: Challenges and Opportunity”, featured academic leaders including Dr. Salman Bin Ali Al Wahf, Dean of King Saud University’s Computer and Information Sciences College and Dr. Saleh al-Wasel Dean of Scientific Research as well as innovators and donors from the non profit sector.
Workshop highlighted university’s important efforts In order to support research and innovation in the non-profit sector, the focus was on strategic planning, goals, ongoing projects, and the future of one specific chair. Discussions focused on maximizing artificial intelligence’s (AI) benefits in the non profit sector, and turning theoretical research into applications that can enhance service delivery.
Salman Bin Wahf highlights the importance of volunteering The university can use its research capabilities and advisories to assist community organizations. In parallel, Dr. Al-Wasel stressed the importance of strategic partnership with community organisations to maximize smart research and application developed by the university.
The supervisor of the Research Chair, Dr. Majdl Sultan bin Safran provided a comprehensive overview of its strategy and goals, including promoting applied AI research on electronic dialog and civilizational communications. In the meantime, Dr. Sultan Al-Farhood spoke about international AI practices in the non-profit industry and future trends.
The workshop was a great starting point To improve research and innovation within AI by enhancing collaboration between non-profit and university institutions. It is expected that this collaborative effort will have a positive effect on the society, by creating innovative solutions to challenges these institutions face.
The inauguration of a new headquarters for the Electronic Dialogue and Civilizational Communication Research Chair was held on the fringes of the workshop. King Saud University, in line with its previous efforts, had signed an agreement with Rakn Al-Dialogue Community Association to create this research chair, with funding provided by the Suleiman Abanumy Foundation.
