HARRISONBURG (WHSV), Va. – The 7th Annual Great Community Give was held where donors could choose the nonprofit organizations of their choosing.
Amanda Bomfim is the Director of Marketing and Initiatives for Community Foundation for Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. She said that the Community Foundation’s goal for this year was to raise $2,000,000. Before lunch, they had already raised $1,000,000. In celebration of the event’s 7th anniversary, $7.00 was the minimum donation. Participants included 157 non-profit organizations.
They can separate the causes by arts, environment, youth and children, or whatever your passion is. You can find a cause that is meaningful to you and donate towards. It will make you feel good about yourself.
Bomfin stated that some nonprofits are solely dependent on The Great Community Give.
She said that “a lot have cancelled their fundraising events due to a lack in staffing, capacity or whatever the reason may be.” “For many of these non-profits, it is their main fundraiser of the year so they are really on a budget,” she added.
Shenandoah National Park Trust was one of the organizations that took part in the Great Community Give. It is the official partner philanthropic for Shenandoah National Park. Ember Heischman said that this is the third time the organization has participated in the Great Community Give. JMU students volunteered their time to assist with this campaign.
Heischman said that the ambassadors had been very helpful in spreading information to donors. They have also been posting posters.
This year, the total raised was $2116040.
