A non-profit organization calls for vigilance in the wake of a child abduction that occurred in Detroit
Nina Innsted is the social media director for Missing in Michigan. She said, “You need to be on guard in your own community and in ours.”
DETROIT, FOX 2 – She was on her way home from school Wednesday when she noticed a woman. A 10-year-old girl was sexually assaulted and abducted. Police found her over three hours after she was reported missing.

Detroit Police reported that two girls aged 10 were returning from Gompers elementary school on the west side of Detroit when they were approached by a man in his 59s. The man allegedly approached two girls, both 10 years old. One of the girls walked with him while the other continued home.
Police searched the area for several hours before finding her in the home of a man on Braile Street near Fenkel Avenue, Detroit.
Innsted stated that everyone has a part to play in keeping children safe.
She said, “If you notice a child walking by your home, keep an eye on him.” Be a good neighbour. “Be a good member of the community.”
A man was arrested for kidnapping the child. The charges are still pending.
Innsted stated that if something similar happens, you should step in.
I can’t keep an eye on my children 24/7. “You can’t monitor your children 24/7. If you notice a child in distress, you can intervene or ask, “Are you okay?” She said.
Believe a child who says an adult makes them uncomfortable.
Innsted stated that we must teach our children to listen to their instincts. Innsted said that children should be taught to trust their gut instincts and not let adults make them feel uncomfortable.
You should not stop to help a stranger, whether you’re a child or an adult.
Innsted told Innsted to “just keep moving”. You don’t need them to be able to reach you.
