Tesla, which had just launched a marketing department dedicated to advertising its products and services, has now reportedly terminated the whole team. This leaves people wondering if this is the end for Tesla in the world of advertising.
Elon Musk said in May 2024 that Tesla would try out some advertising to see what happens. According to Bloomberg, the entire US “growth-content” team, which consisted of 40 employees and was overseen by Alex Ingram as senior manager, has been eliminated from the job cuts.
Bloomberg reported that only a small percentage of the marketing team in Europe is still present.
Musk responded to a comment on X that said that laid-off staff could have done a “better job” with their advertisements. Musk stated that “the ads were too generic – they could’ve easily been for any car.”
Exactly. They were too generic and could have been for any vehicle.
