PULASKI COUNTY (KATV) — Two nonprofits in the area have decided to work together to provide meals for people with food shortages.
Department of Agriculture of the United States shared in a Reportage Arkansas was the first state in terms of food insecurity across the nation.
Hunger Force North Little Rock, Arkansas Community Advocates and Hunger Force North Little Rock will bring food to people who are in need via an initiative named “Pantry2U”.
Pantry2U aims to close the gap that exists between those who need food and their available supply.
Zachary Karr said, “This new idea is the result of our hard work,” as Executive Director at Arkansas Community Advocates. We will deliver nonperishable foods directly to those who need them and cannot access the supplies we already have.
Both organizations reported that they had seen an increase of the people who reached out and needed food each month.
Karr said, “We are seeing a number of people living in extreme poverty or indigence.” Many people who are disabled, or live off their disability check or social security. They also don’t have cars or other means of transportation. Many people are unable to access your food banks because they have limited resources.
The money and food donations from volunteers and the community are used to purchase all the fuel and food that is donated.
Karr says this mission is close to his heart.
Karr said, “I’ve lived my entire life in poverty.” It is personal to me, because I have been poor my whole life. It is a constant struggle, especially when you are a family with children. You have to make hard decisions, one by one, to determine how to pay your bills. It is not fair to force people to make difficult decisions such as “Am I paying this bill, or will I buy food for my children?”
Karr’s plan calls for food to be delivered on the third sunday of every month.
