Auctioned for 16 BTC or just under $1 million, the iconic ‘Buy Bitcoin” sign that Janet Yellen held during her televised congressional testimony from July 2017.
Scarce.CityThe auction house, which facilitated the transaction, claimed that it was an auction record.
The actual auction was held in New York City at PubKey, an Bitcoin themed bar.
According to PubKey, the sign is now owned by Squirrekkywrath.
It is not known much about the new owner. Alex Thorn is the head of Galaxy’s research. He said he was a bitcoin OG, which no one had ever heard.
The aforementioned is a Interview with CoinDeskChristian Langalis who was holding the sign said that the money would be used to fund Tirrel Corp which is creating a Bitcoin Lightning Network wallet for Urbit.
Langalis, who held up the sign at a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee in 2017, was removed from the building after violating the committee’s rules. Meanwhile, his image went viral online.
