Four days after the birth of the baby, the woman who was the mother died in an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza Strip’s southern side.
The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) reported on Thursday that the infant girl had died. The baby girl was born by emergency cesarean at a Rafah hospital on Sunday.
BBC reports that the newborn baby was only 1.4 kg and in respiratory distress when born. She was buried with her mother.
Israeli airstrikes continued in Gaza Friday. The death toll in Gaza has risen from 34356 people since Israel’s conflict with Hamas started.
Israeli forces have shown their readiness to begin a ground operation in Rafah. They claim that the offensive is meant to destroy Hamas. Rafah is currently home to 1.2 millions people including those who have fled other areas of Gaza.
Reuters reported on the evacuation of some residents from Rafah. Video footage from Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, shows people putting tents up using plastic and cloth sheets.
International community expressed concern over an operation on the ground in Rafah. A delegation from Egypt visited Israel on Saturday to discuss a return of talks for an end to the fighting, and the release hostages.
