The energetic live performance sequence from Girls Band Cry‘s fifth episode has been uploaded to the project’s official YouTube channel.
This part of the episode, which features Nina, Momoka, and Subaru performing the song ”What to raise” with T-shirts that are begging to be made into real-life merchandise, is storyboarded and directed by Atsushi Mimura. Mimura directed the BanG Dream! Episode of Roselia two-part film and was also CG supervisor on a few other BanG Dream! titles, as well as being Psycho–Pass: The Movie‘s 3D director.
Girls Band Cry is a rock band-themed youth drama that premiered in Japan on April 5 (effectively April 6 at 12.30 AM JST). The anime is part of the project of the same name, which was announced in April 2023 and includes animated music videos and singles.
Toei Animation describes Girls Band Cry‘s story setting as:
The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo. A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn’t know what to do. Another girl is abandoned by her parents, and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs. This world lets us down all the time. Nothing goes as planned. But we want something that we can continue to like. We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
Recently, it was revealed that Girls Band Cry will have a collaboration with karaoke chain Big Echo from May 3 to June 30, with five participating outlets to feature exhibitions with shots from the anime and a collaboration drink menu.
