HANCOCK, Mich. (WLUC) – The Keweenaw Community Foundation is offering a new, free informative series for community partners and nonprofits in the Keweenaw area.
Tuesday evening marked the first session, overviewing grants and grant writing. Partners and nonprofits expressed to the foundation that they wanted to learn more about grants and other subjects like non-profit governance, leading to the series creation.
“We also recently did a survey of our grantees and learned that this was highly desired,” KCF Executive Director Robin Meneguzzo said. “So we decided that we would provide funding for an educational series that also allows for some networking opportunities for a broad sense for our community, so our health and human service nonprofits, our environmental nonprofits and anyone who wants to come and learn.”
Grow & Lead: Community and Youth Development, a nonprofit organization, is assisting the series with educational materials. While grants are the current subject, the foundation aims to cover others in the future once wrapping up grants as a subject.
“This will be a quarterly event we hope to maintain year after year if it’s successful,” Meneguzzo continued. “What we’re hoping is to get feedback from the community about what’s helpful, what do they want to learn about and then we can help craft things that meet that need.
The foundation plans to create a page on its website to post recordings of each session.
Dates for future entries will also be posted on the foundation’s Facebook page.
The foundation is currently holding the series at its main office in Hancock but is considering additional locations to make it more accessible.
