Elon Musk’s space company SpaceX is aiming to build a launch facility that would support up to 44 Starship launches every year at its pad at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, Bloomberg reported on Friday.
Starship is SpaceX’s massive new rocket, designed to take humans to the moon and eventually Mars. The company has conducted several tests at its launch site in Boca Chica, Texas, but is now looking to upgrade its Florida facilities to support a rapid launch cadence.
According to the report, the Federal Aviation Administration on Friday said that it will prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as part of the review process.
In the past, SpaceX and NASA have discussed moving Starship launches to Florida as the company plans to commercialize Starship operations after earlier test flights ended prematurely in explosions.
