Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) will possibly face antitrust charges from the European Commission in the coming weeks related to its conferencing app Teams, according to a report Monday by the Financial Times.
Last month, Microsoft introduced a plan to unbundle Teams from Office and other software packages, but this did not go far enough to create fairness in the market, according to the report.
Microsoft rivals and the commission are expected to meet this week to discuss the case, which means charges could be forthcoming in the next few weeks, according to people familiar with the matter, the report added.
However, the same sources also indicated Microsoft could offer concessions that derail the case, or the commission might drop potential charges altogether.
Microsoft will “continue to engage with the commission, listen to concerns in the marketplace, and remain open to exploring pragmatic solutions that benefit both customers and developers in Europe,” the company said in a statement to the Financial Times.
