Waste Watch: Mayor Scott grants $3 million to non-profits (WBFF)
Last month, Mayor Brandon Scott announced $3 million in grants for arts programs for non-profits that are run by historically under-represented minorities. When announcing the funding, Mayor Scott said the too many tax payer dollars have gone to organizations that “just happen to be white-ran.” Meanwhile, David Williams with the Taxpayers Protection Alliance is raising concerns about the organizations that this money is going to.
“This is supposed to be a competitive grant process, the best non-profit for the job that’s taking place,” Williams said. “Let’s keep in mind that Baltimore is spending a lot of money with nonprofits, I think its $50 million dollars in the last few years.”
He believes that if the process of picking a nonprofit is not competitive, it could lead to the funds not going to the most efficient organization
