CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – CavFutures Foundation has announced the conclusion of its inaugural grant program, Champions of the Community, resulting in the selection of 13 non-profits to receive funding in the Charlottesville community.
UVA student-athletes within the foundation researched all the non-profit grant requests for Champions of the Community.
“Based on their recommendations, we were able to donate $130,000 to local nonprofits,” CavFutures Executive Director Lo Davis said.
Davis emphasized that this program is also about building connections.
“To be able to have this program where we bring a lot of these student-athletes who are not from Charlottesville, and connect them to local nonprofits and understand our community that’s rewarding in itself,” Davis said.
In the future, CavFutures hopes to create more positive change in the community.
“Next year, our goal is to double what we’ve given and do up to $200,000 in grants to local nonprofits,” Davis said.
