Small businesses in Media were celebrated during a walking tour May 2 with Rick Viello, deputy secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
An official from PA Gov. Josh Shapiro took a May 2 Media walking tour, emphasizing the role of local downtowns and Main Streets in Pennsylvania, reports the Delco Commerce Center.
The tour coincided with the celebration of Small Business Week April 28 through May 4.
Visiting Media was Deputy Secretary Rick Viello, of the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Small business and Main Street support is part of Gov. Shapiro’s economic development strategy, which includes a 2024-25 budget proposal of $600 million in economic development investments.
Gov. Shapiro has proposed a $25 million investment in a Main Street Matters program to create economic opportunity for small businesses.
Deputy Secretary Viello traveled with local leaders.
He was joined by Dave Fairman, executive director of the Media Business Authority; Dr. Monica Taylor, Chair, Delaware County Council , and other local leaders.
Among their stops were women’s clothing retailer Stile by Per Lei, gift shop Three Potato Four, sustainably-sourced gift and art shop Earth & State, Ocean City Coffee Company, and Two Fourteen restaurant and cocktail bar.
“I enjoyed seeing firsthand many of the innovative small businesses and meeting and chatting with the hard-working entrepreneurs in downtown Media,” said Deputy Secretary Rick Vilello.
Dave Fairman said the borough was proud of its independent, family-owned small businesses that “make Everybody’s Hometown come alive.”
Dr. Taylor described small businesses as “the backbone of Delaware County.”
“Governor Shapiro’s proposal to support our local store front entrepreneurs with his ‘Main Street Matters’ program is essential to assist us in supporting and growing our economy.”
