ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– Over 100 Capital Region nonprofits are participating in the inaugural 518 Day of Giving on Saturday, May 18. The Day of Giving is celebrated through an online fundraiser to unite the community and support Capital Region nonprofits.
518 Day of Giving fundraiser hopes to raise $518,000 in 24 hours by harnessing the power of donors and advocates to sustain the hard work of local nonprofit organizations. Donations can be made through the 518 Day website, where you can track the progress of the 133 nonprofit’s fundraisers.
One of the local nonprofits participating is the Albany Center Gallery, which works to make art accessible to everyone through free and public exhibitions, pop-up art shows, and programs. Donations to the Art Center Gallery help artists within a 100-mile radius of Albany share their artistic visions.
International organizations with regional chapters are also participating in 518 Day of Giving. Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region is one of them. The charity provides hospitality, support services, programs, and respite care to families with sick or injured children.
Donations on the Day of Giving keep Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Capital Region’s services free to families so they can focus on their child’s well-being and health. A $100 donation can help the charity provide five days of lunches at the Ronald McDonald Family Room in the Bernard and Millie Duker Children’s Hospital at Albany Med.
The Underground Railroad Education Center is another nonprofit participating because of its mission to promote racial equality, human rights, and social justice through preserving history. 518 Day of Giving gives the Underground Railroad Education Center and other participating nonprofits a chance to expand and increase their impact on the Capital Region community.
