JOLIET — City of Joliet manager Beth Beatty announced on Monday that City Hall’s new media engagement and communications director position will be filled by Rosemaria DiBenedetto, a public relations executive who has been handling communication matters for Mayor Terry D’Arcy.
In her new role at City Hall, DiBenedetto will make a salary of $159,900.
On April 3, Joliet Patch reported that the salary range for the new Media Engagement & Communications Director was listed as a minimum salary of $111,000 and a top salary of $177,570.

The position has been advertised since March 13, according to Joliet’s website.
“We interviewed every candidate that applied and met the minimum qualifications, but Rosemaria had the most experience in local government operations and public relations experience,” Beatty remarked in Monday’s press release. “Rosemaria has been advising municipal leaders and involved in local governments for over 35 years.

“The city needs a strong voice to serve as the city’s spokesperson while working with myself, the mayor, city council, department heads and others to handle the influx of media requests while promoting the good work we are doing on behalf of the residents.”

According to Beatty’s hiring announcement, DiBenedetto is an accomplished public relations executive with a comprehensive background in government operations, crisis management, media training, public affairs and administrative services.
DiBenedetto holds a master’s in public and social administration with an emphasis in local government from Brunel University of West London, in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from DePaul University in Chicago.
Joliet is in Will and Kendall counties, 30 miles southwest of Chicago. It is the county seat of Will County. At the 2020 census, the city was the third largest in Illinois, with a population of 150,362.
