NORFOLK, Neb. — For the Liberty Centre, serving people with addiction and mental health illness is not just about raising money.
“The more we can get into the community and let people know what we do and who we are, it makes it easier for people to find us,” Rachael Bohl said.
Bohl stressed the importance of spreading awareness, as do the other non-profits involved in this year’s Norfolk Area Big Give fundraising event.
Over 30 non-profits in the area have been taking donations from the community since last Thursday.
“These are important organizations for the people of Norfolk because we have a lot of people that need the help that don’t necessarily have the money to pay for the services they need,” Bohl said.
“We’re all in this to get people healthier and we want to remove the stigma for if you do need help or you find yourself in that place in your life journey, that you just need someone to come alongside of you,” Oasis Counseling International Executive Director Toni Maxey said.
It also provides time for these nonprofits to collaborate for future projects.
“Whether it’s a grand scale or just a small scale like that, those collaborations are key to all of our success,” Big Give Chair Libby McKay said.
McKay hopes this year beats last year’s total of nearly $300,000.
“Everybody has the opportunity to be impactful at some level,” McKay said. “I hope that’s what everybody takes away from it…every drop in the bucket.”
The nonprofits will continue accepting donations through Norfolk Big Give until Wednesday.
