Six local nonprofit agencies were recently awarded grants through the Rotary Club of Meadville’s annual grant program, according to Deana Burge, grant chairman.
The grant application period was open from March 1 through April 30. A total of 21 applications were received. The grant ceremony was held May 21 at Wesbury’s Lingo Room located in the Cribbs Residential Center. The grant recipients this year were: The Academy Theatre Foundation, Crawford County CASA Inc., Crawford County Firefighters Scuba Team, Family & Community Christian Association, the Meadville Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Fund, and the Salvation Army of Meadville.
The mission of Rotary International is to connect people who work together to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance worldwide goodwill and peace. In addition to the local grant program, the Rotary Club of Meadville contributes locally by doing highway cleanup, participating in the Salvation Army’s bell-ringing efforts and has a food booth at the Crawford County Fair with affordable, family-friendly prices.
The Rotary Club of Meadville would like to grow its membership. Those interested in joining the club can contact Tim Bracken, board president, at timbracken03@gmail.com, or attend a meeting. Meetings are held the first and third Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. at Wesbury.
