SAN ANTONIO – City Committee leaders are taking a look at where San Antonio falls in workforce development.
During a regular Economic and Workforce Committee Meeting, they reviewed their progress on top priorities.
One of them is supporting small businesses to get started or to expand.
To accomplish that, they are offering 0% interest loans with the Lift Fund, and helping small businesses to expand through ‘second stage grant funding’.
The city is monitoring the progress through a dashboard.
It details everything from how many jobs are being created, to how many businesses are receiving zero-percent interest loans.
City leaders say while the programs are certainly helping, they also say more needs to be done to help entrepreneurs.
“I don’t see anything, I don’t see that there’s any goal in here that’s for entrepreneurship, but we have a city that’s clearly committed to it,” said Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia “We have geekdom – we have port San Antonio and all the innovation happening around there, and maybe you can help me see where that will be embedded, but I think there needs to be a more purposeful focus on that.”
Committee members also want to look closer at how better infrastructure could help attract more businesses.
