Amazon to close Stockton facility in July, impacting 390 workers
Amazon is planning to close a warehouse in Stockton at the end of July, which will impact 390 workers, according to California state filings. The Amazon sorting center is located at 4601 Newcastle Road. Amazon announced the closure in a filing with the state in May, saying that the closure would be effective on July 30. The filing described the layoffs as permanent, but Amazon told our partner, the San Francisco Chronicle, that all workers will be offered the chance to work at nearby facilities in Stockton, Tracy and Manteca. Amazon also plans to open two new facilities in Stockton with around 1,000 total workers, the SF Chronicle reported. Amazon also said in a recent court filing that it planned to close a fulfillment center in San Francisco at 888 Tennessee Street on June 27. That closure will impact 85 workers. The SF Chronicle said the company plans to build a bigger facility nearby.See more coverage of top California stories here | Download our app.
