Duke Energy announced June 3 it awarded $155,000 in Emergency Preparedness and Storm Resiliency grants to 11 Upstate governments and nonprofits.
“Preparing communities to respond to severe weather impacts begins in our neighborhoods and communities,” said Mike Callahan, president of Duke Energy South Carolina. “Providing our fellow first responders with the tools and training to handle whatever Mother Nature throws our way is necessary in maintaining a resilient and prosperous South Carolina.”
The grant program awarded $500,000 to 33 nonprofits and government entities across the state, including Upstate recipients such as:
- South Spartanburg Fire District – $10,000
- Clear Spring Fire and Rescue of Greenville – $10,000
- Greenville County Emergency Management – $15,000
- Landrum Area Fire Department of Greenville – $17,000
- Travelers Rest Police – $10,000
- North Spartanburg Firefighters’ Foundation – $10,000
- Hodges-Cokesbury Fire Department and Rescue Inc. of Greenwood – $9,000
- Greenwood County – $15,000
- Oconee County – $20,000
- City of Clemson – $19,000
- Anderson County – $20,000
