FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV) – Middletown Commons, Compass Realty Group, and Huntington Bank partnered to host the first Middletown Commons Block Party on Thursday.
The event helped highlight small businesses and nonprofits in the Fairmont area.
Organizers say the block party was a great way to connect with people, and learn about local businesses you can support.
“We hope that it inspires people to get out and learn about what’s happening in their community, the businesses that they can support, and just have fun with their families,” said C’Anna Keffer, a realtor with Compass Realty Group.
Keffer said there were about 10 partner agencies from the Tygart Valley United Way, and some businesses from Middletown Commons at the block party.
There was also a DJ, a bounce house, games, a face painter and a treat truck with Italian ice from Rita’s.
Keffer was born and raised in Fairmont, and it’s important to her to give back to her community.
“I’m somebody that, and Michele is as well, very civic minded,” said Keffer. “I believe that you have to give back, and that’s so important. I’m a big proponent of supporting small business, and also supporting nonprofit.”
She said participating in the Leadership Marion program opened her eyes to all the needs in the Fairmont community and the businesses that operate there.
“To give a wider platform to them was super important, and being from Fairmont, [it] makes me feel really good to get exposure for them and to create something that people can bring their families to,” Keffer said.
Keffer hopes to continue having this block party every year.
