SEATTLE — Starbucks announced that it is joining the value meal race, offering two combos in a new addition to its menu. The coffee chain dubbed the additions as the “Pairings menu.”
For $5, customers can get a tall coffee or tea, hot or iced, and a butter croissant. For $6, customers can get the beverages paired with certain breakfast sandwich options, according to Starbucks’ website.
The Starbucks value meal announcement comes amid declines in sales.
CNN reported that fast food prices are rising, prompting consumers to curtail spending.
Additionally, Starbucks experienced a “disappointing” quarter of sales. Its usually strong sales saw a 12% decrease in premarket trading. CNN also reported that it experienced a 3% decline in same-store sales.
It hasn’t experienced a similar decline in same-store sales since 2020.
Starbucks isn’t the first chain to use value meals to gain customers. CNN reported that Wendy’s and McDonald’s, among others, have been attempting to lure customers amid rising fast-food costs.
For example, CNBC reported that Wendy’s announced a new $3 combo option earlier this month.
