A fundraiser returns to our region for their 21st year of charity donations.
Hundreds of participants and nonprofit officials gathered at Lakemont Park in Blair County Saturday morning for the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community.
Event organizers there said the event works to help local nonprofits raise money for their individual missions.
They said one 100% of the funds raised through the event go directly back to the organizations.
Organizers said visitors had the chance to participate in a 5k or one-mile walk, and select the nonprofit organization they want to support when signing up.
They said this year’s walk featured six nonprofits and raised over $51,000.
Walk director Michelle Smiley said walk participants can make a major difference.
Smiley said, “I hope that they just enjoy doing good and knowing that just being here and supporting those nonprofits is good for their community.”
She said she hopes the Highmark walk will continue for years to come.
