Lavallee Brensinger welcomes health care principal Michael Niehaus
Lavallee Brensinger Architects recently welcomed Michael Niehaus to its team as a principal. With over 30 years of experience in health care design, he is known for his holistic, evidence-based forensic approach to project development.
According to Niehaus’s profile on the company’s website, his “first love of architecture was religious architecture (High Gothic) influenced by his growing up in Europe. It was religious architecture’s historical and collective significance as common places that represented each community’s ethos and values to each other, and the outside world influenced him to go into architecture, leading him to health care design. Creating spaces for comfort and support continues to influence his approach to designing healing spaces, viewing modern-day health care facilities as our community’s place to demonstrate our ethos of compassion, empathy, and how we care for each other.”
Mike Niehaus can be reached at 617.398.2035 x222 or by emailing michael.niehaus@lbpa.com.
Alton ZBA reconsidering Cherry Valley development decision
In an unusual move, the Alton Zoning Board of Adjustment is meeting on Thursday morning (June 20) to revisit its decision earlier this month to rescind the application of a developer who wants to build a wedding and retreat center on Cherry Valley Road.
A large crowd of people turned out to see developer Lakes Hospitality Group present an application for a special exception on June 6, which would have permitted the operation of a commercial facility within the town’s rural zone. However, the ZBA ruled the plan was incomplete — specific shortcomings included conflicting details on planning documents and lack of information about the total height of the tallest building — and therefore the developer wasn’t invited to present her plan. Further, the ZBA said on June 6, the application was already continued four times, and therefore no additional continuances would be offered. If the applicant wished to pursue the plan, they would have to re-submit a new application.
Now, it appears, the ZBA is re-thinking that position.
The Alton ZBA will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. on Thursday, June 20, at which the only item on the agenda is a motion to reconsider the Lakes Hospitality Group’s case.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at Alton Town Hall. — Adam Drapcho, Laconia Daily Sun
