PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — People in need will have peaches to eat after the distribution to them by non-profits following today’s donation event at Kroger.
With 144 boxes of peaches given out by Kroger, several non-profits attended to collect the boxes of peaches, with the organizations getting anywhere from four to 20 boxes full of the Georgia-grown fruit.
Linda Ruppman, the volunteer coordinator for Sophia’s Kitchen, said that they are grateful for any and all donations, including these.
“This helps so much,” she said. “We work on donations, so whether it’s a food donation or a monetary donation, we appreciate both. But this food this time of year, we have so many more people in need this time of the year that this is such a blessing. It’s a huge help. We very much appreciate it.”
Ruppman also said that these peaches have a lot of purpose in how they serve food.
“We will keep some of the peaches and do a fruit salad,” she said. “Then we have little display containers and stuff in our dining room where they can go out and they can pick them themselves like their shopping. So everybody gets a taste of it and then they can actually take some home with them, which is great.”
Other local food banks who received peaches including Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Peoria, Crittenton Centers, Dream Center Peoria, Goodwill Industries of Central Illinois, Midwest Food Bank and Neighborhood House.
