EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Local non-profits teamed up on Saturday at a community barbeque in Wilson Park.
‘Motivation Begins with Mindset’ (MBM) and Say Yes Missions gathered resources from sponsors like the Mayo Clinic and Festival Foods to help people throughout Eau Claire experiencing homelessness and hunger.
People attending were met with a hot meal, hair wash and haircuts, washing of their feet and words of praise and worship.
The president of MBM, Dekelen ‘DJ’ Griffin, wanted to provide for those struggling in the area.
“I remember being homeless, you know at eight years old in the streets of Eau Claire. So, God just put a passion in my heart to be a part, be a part of change,” Griffin said, “This is way bigger than last year. It’s amazing, we’ve got the bouncy house for the kids, the kids are the future. If we could get the kids early, we could steer them in the right direction so they don’t have to go through these transgressions that these older people are.”
This is the second year MBM has held a community barbeque event for those in need, DJ also says that one’s current situation does not need to be their final destination.
