CHEYENNE, Wyo. — On July 10, the Wyoming Nonprofit Network will host the fifth annual WyoGives, coinciding with Wyoming’s Statehood Day. This 24-hour online fundraising event aims to unite the community in support of the state’s nonprofits.
WyoGives is designed to bring together individuals, businesses and organizations across Wyoming to support local nonprofits, according to the events website. The event uses an online platform, WyoGives.org, which makes it easy for donors to find and support the causes they care about. This year, 148 nonprofit organizations listed as serving Laramie County are participating, alongside over 380 organizations statewide.
The event will begin at midnight on July 10 and continue until 11:59 p.m., providing a full 24 hours for residents to make impactful donations. Donors can explore a wide range of causes, from arts and culture to health and human services. Each participating nonprofit has a profile page on WyoGives.org, where donors can learn about their missions and the specific projects their donations will support.
A unique feature of WyoGives is the opportunity for donations to be enhanced by matching funds. The Hughes Charitable Foundation Incentive Pool is one such source of matching funds, providing a boost to donations made during the event. Additionally, individual nonprofits may have their own partners who offer matching donations, further amplifying the impact of each contribution.
Throughout the day, several prize incentives will be available to encourage early and frequent giving. For instance, the first organization to receive an online donation at the stroke of midnight will win a $500 prize. Moreover, at 3:07 a.m. and 3:07 p.m., the first three organizations to receive donations will each win $307. These prizes are awarded with precise timing, calculated down to the nanosecond.
Golden Ticket prizes, worth $500 each, will be awarded every two hours from 4 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. These prizes are divided into two categories: one for organizations with an annual budget of less than $250,000 and another for those with a budget of more than $250,000. Each donation made during the designated two-hour windows enters the recipient organization into a drawing for these prizes.
In addition to these timed prizes, milestone awards will be given as the total donations on the WyoGives website reach significant amounts. The organizations that receive the donations that push the total to $1 million, $2 million and $3 million will each receive a $1,000 prize.
Peer-to-peer fundraising is another key aspect of WyoGives. Individuals can create personal fundraising pages to support their chosen nonprofits. The top three peer-to-peer fundraisers will earn additional cash prizes for their organizations, with first place receiving $500, second place $300, and third place $200.
Social media engagement plays a significant role in WyoGives as well. Organizations and their supporters are encouraged to share their participation using the hashtag #WyoGives. Creative and heartfelt posts thanking donors will be eligible for the $500 Gratitude Magnitude prize. Additionally, four $250 prizes will be awarded to organizations that share photos of their WyoGives activities on Instagram and Facebook using the hashtags #ShowUsWY and #WyoGives.
Residents of Cheyenne and beyond are encouraged to participate and support the nonprofits that enrich their communities. Every donation counts, and together these contributions will help sustain the vital work being done by Wyoming’s nonprofits.
