WILLOWICK, Ohio (WOIO) – Two theft suspects are behind bars after leading police on a pursuit that ended with them crashing into two houses in Willowick Wednesday afternoon.
Police said around 12:20 p.m. the Willowick Police Department was alerted to a theft that had just occurred at the Starbucks located in the 30000 block of Lakeshore Blvd.
The caller was able to give police a description of the vehicle along with a license plate number number.
A Willowick officer on patrol was able to find the suspects vehicle on Vine St near St. Mary Magdalene church and attempted to stop it. However, the vehicle turned Westbound onto Willowick Drive and began to flee at a high rate of speed, according to police.
The officer pursued the suspect’s vehicle as it approached the intersection of East 305th and Willowick Drive the suspect attempted to turn left onto E. 305th St but failed to negotiate the turn and crashed into two residential homes on the West side of E. 305th St.
Several residents were in each home but were unharmed.
Both homes sustained heavy structural damage from the crash, according to police.
Two adult suspects were taken into custody on several felony charges.
Police believe both suspects were recently engaged in a string of commercial and retail business thefts throughout Lake and Cuyahoga counties.
