Google has sent an email to Android users telling them about a new Play Store feature that will encourage biometric verification for purchases.
To proceed, you must enter your Google Account Password when going to Play Store Settings > Purchase Verification and turning on “Biometric verification”, which uses the Material 3 toggle switch.
You’ll be able to choose whether you want your Google Account password or your fingerprint in the future.
Google explained this change coming in an email entitled “Your Google Play Purchase Verification Settings”: “In the weeks to come, you will need to confirm how you want your settings when you select biometric verification.”
Play Store has simplified the process of setting up biometrics to encourage you to turn on the purchase verification every time. There are three options for Verification Frequency: Always, Once Every 30 Minutes, and Never.
Google warns in the email to be careful when storing biometrics on devices, since they could be used to verify purchases. They also advise to avoid sharing passwords.
