Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and Governor of Ogun, Dapo Abibodun have both stressed the importance of building a positive image of the country to ensure its growth, prosperity and development.
The opening of 2024 Nigeria Institute of Public Relations Week was held on June 12, at the Cultural Centre in Kuto, Abeokuta.
The four-day program’s theme is “Leveraging public relations as a critical asset for Nigeria’s economic and reputational Renaissance”.
Abiodun said that public relations were a key asset in the quest of any government to build sustainable growth.
He said that by implementing a strong public relations initiative, the vision and policies of the government could be more appreciated by those in power.
He said that it would also foster international and bi-lateral co-operation.
The Governor urged Public Relations practitioners to start projecting Nigeria’s image around the globe to help attract more investment and to build up the real economy.
In his speech, the Minister for Information stressed the importance of good public relations to enhance the image of Nigeria and its economic growth.
Lanre Issa Onilu, Director-General of National Orientation Agency (NAA), represented the Minister who noted that strategic public relations could help the country attract investment, promote innovation, and improve its global standing.
Idris said that Bola Tinubu’s administration has been making recent efforts to revitalize the economy of the country. Its proactive approach in tackling challenges is a promising signpost for progress.
He did note, however, that in order to achieve the vision for a nation of prosperity and respect, citizens need to understand the importance of public relations.
In a world of information that travels faster than light, it has never been so important to be able to communicate effectively, influence and engage.
The power of storytelling is at the core of the economic and reputational renaissance.
He said: “We must create narratives which celebrate our successes, acknowledge our weaknesses transparently and present a compelling future vision.”
