You’ll have to wait and see.
Soon(tm)
OpenAI and Meta will soon release the next version of their AI model that is supposedly capable of planning and reasoning, according to the researchers. Financial Times Reports. Take it with a pinch of salt, just as you would with anything coming from big tech.
There’s also no precise timeline. According to the report, OpenAI indicated that their next AI model will be named GPT-5 and is “coming soon.” Meta said that it expects to release the Llama 3 in a few weeks.
The Meta vice president for AI research Joelle Pineau told the The FT.
Both models, if they are believed by either side — and that’s a very big “if” considering how superficial their claims sound — could be a significant step in the direction of artificial general intelligence. Imaginatively awaited breakthrough AI-based models could possess human-like cognition or even superior cognitive abilities.

Brad Lightcap is the Chief Operating Officer at OpenAI. The FT We’re “going to start seeing AI take on more complicated tasks in a sophisticated way.”
He added, “I believe we are just scratching the surface of the reasoning abilities that these models possess.”
According to the report, Meta plans to incorporate its Llama 3 AI assistant, as well its Ray-Ban augmented reality glasses into WhatsApp.
OpenAI’s GPT-5 plans are not as clear.
Lightcap said: “I believe over time… the models will go towards longer, more complex tasks.” The FT. “And implicitly, that requires an improvement in the ability of their reasoning.”
AGI… AGI…
Both camps make vague claims. This has been more or less the standard operating procedure for AI leaders. This isn’t even the first time that we have been teased by glimmers or sentient AI.
Researchers at Microsoft reported last summer that GPT-4 was “showing” signs of ““Sparks” AGI. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is Long-standing AGI efforts of the Company. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO has stated that The driving force behind AGI creation is AGI. Behind its costly AI push
Researchers have found evidence that AGI is a breakthrough technology They are nothing but a “mirage”, or an illusion. There are two broad categories of‘S A lot of skepticism – perhaps more so than ever before. At some point AI models can simply stop training because they run out of data..
Other experts including AI’s “godfather”, however, have a different view. Geoffrey HintonExpect AGI to arrive as soon as possible Within the next couple of years.
Even if the experts’ projections are accurate, it still sounds more like a rumor than something substantive until you see them for yourself.
